Tradueixo la noticia que he vist a Barrapunto:
«Microsoft ha engegat un programa de beques de postgrau, que ofereix fins a 90.000 Euros durant tres anys a més de cent estudiants de tercer cicle. L’acord (PDF, 121 K) que ha de signar la universitat diu que els resultats del treball d’investigació no han de tenir res que faci flaira a programari lliure o codi obert.»
Copipastada de la clàusula en qüestió:
«7.2 The University shall ensure that the Resulting IPR does not include any Publicly Available Software, that is to say each of (i) any software that contains, or is derived in any manner (in whole or in part) from, any software that is distributed as free software, open source software or similar licensing or distribution models; and (ii) any software that requires as a condition of use, modification and/or distribution of such software that such software or other software incorporated into, derived from or distributed with such software (a) be disclosed or distributed in source code form; and/or (b) be licensed for the purpose of making derivative works; and/or (c) be redistributable at no charge. Publicly Available Software includes, without limitation, software licensed or distributed under any of the following licences or distribution models, or licences or distribution models similar to any of the following: (a) GNU’s General Public Licence (GPL) or Lesser/Library GPL (LGPL), (b) The Artistic Licence (e.g., PERL), (c) the Mozilla Public Licence, (d) the Netscape Public Licence (e) the Sun Community Source Licence (SCSL), (f) the Sun Industry Source Licence (SISL), and (g) the Apache Server Licence».
Penjo aquest apunt per fer memòria cada pic que un partidari del programari lliure sigui titllat de «fanàtic integrista i radical» mentre treballa per que sigui possible fer vida normal, sense cap discriminació, usant només programes lliures.
Cal puntualitzar que els comportaments entre Microsoft i els defensors del bit lliure no són pas anàloges:
- Els partidaris del programari lliure només pretenen que tothom pugui analitzar, copiar, millorar i fer treballs derivats de qualsevol programa informàtic. La informàtica no és quelcom trivial, perquè està gestionant béns comuns cada pic més importants. Es tracta de la Societat de la Informació i del Coneixement, la revolució més important després de la Societat Industrial. La llibertat només està segura si hi ha qui la defensa.
- Microsoft només defensa la seva butxaca. Per mantenir-la ben plena, fan pressió on convingui, també a institucions bàsiques per la comunitat, com la Universitat o els governs.
Ja tenim l’empresa privada, per investigar i apropiar-se dels resultats. Cap Universitat (amb majúscula) no hauria d’acceptar doblers a canvi de no poder analitzar, copiar, millorar ni fer treballs derivats de l’investigació de cap doctor.
El programa està dirigit a universitats europees. Espero que els excessos entre universitat i empresa no passin des dels USA cap aquí. Estem ben arreglats, si també posem les nostres universitats al servei de l’empresa i no del coneixement tractat amb mètode científic.
